THE THIEF

In a beautiful town, lived a young rich, handsome man. He was both a farmer and a teacher, but despite him being rich, he was known to be a liar, and because of these ladies avoided any relationship with him. He had a friend whose name was Christopher. Christopher was a teacher, married to Joy who was also a teacher, and they were loved by all because they were honest in all they do. Christopher had talked to him concerning his dishonest lifestyle but to no avail. He would always claim that he was wise and that he could never be caught forgetting an adage that says, “every day for the thief, one day for the owner.” He kept living a life of no one can question me not bothering about what the town was saying or how they felt.

On a particular day, he went to the farm to harvest only to discover that there was a box in between the ridges. He opened the box only to find a huge sum of money. He was at first shocked about the discovery, but rather than make a report at the station or even the king, he took the box to his house and hid it well. A few days later, the town announcer went around the town to call the attention of everyone that the king wishes to all sundry at the palace. At the meeting, it was announced that a huge sum of money was missing. The king added that anyone who found it would be rewarded handsomely.

Unknown to the man, the money was a trap to catch him red-handed, so they could nab him and drive him out of the village. While he thought he had hit the jackpot, the town was busy waiting for him to come out clean. Christopher discussed with his wife concerning the plot against his friend, he was so unhappy about the situation, but there was nothing he could do because the authorities were keeping a tab on him. “How do I elope with this money,” he thought. So, he planned on hiding his belongings gradually in his farm. While everyone was asleep, he would tiptoe with a few of his belongings to his farm since his farm was quite close to the border of the town. On the day he was to elope, he had packed the remains of his clothes and hid the money so well no one would have guessed anything was there.

Unknown to him, he was being watched by a few of the guards, and they had been following all of his plans waiting for him to execute his plans.

By mid-morning, he set on his journey, arriving at his farm; he carried his belongings and was to continue his journey when he was nabbed by the guards. He was bundled to the palace and locked in the king’s prison. By daybreak, the town carrier went around the village, calling for everyone to report to the palace without delay.
